Coronavirus: dermatology update
In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, please read our advice and information.
Oral dermatology research
The clinical service is closely integrated with an active research programme which spans 3 areas: understanding disease mechanisms, improving diagnosis and optimising treatment. Through identification of biomarkers combined with use of our novel oral disease severity score (ODSS), we have been able to sort patients into risk sub-groups and optimise therapeutic approaches. Additionally, we have been able to show improved outcomes in patients with complex lichen planus using this same clinical outcome measure. Our extended research programme includes study of the role of the oral microbiome in pemphigus, pemphigoid and lichen planus.

Jane Johnston, a participant in one of our clinical trials
I would definitely recommend taking part in research… new treatments need patient involvement and I wanted to help others in the future
