During your appointment
Please arrive no more than 30 minutes before your appointment.

Gait analysis
We'll ask you to change into your shorts and t-shirt, and to take off your shoes and socks.
We'll measure your height and weight and the range of movement of your hips, knees, and ankles.
You may also have an ultrasound scan to take pictures of your muscles.
We'll record your legs while you are standing and while you walk along a 10-metre path.
We'll attach small balls to the skin on your feet, legs, and around your waist using double-sided sticky tape. The balls will allow us to record your movement in 3D. We may also place small sensors on your legs that record your muscle activity.
In total, you will walk about 100 metres. You can take breaks if you need them.
We'll ask you questions and talk to you about any concerns you have about your walking. We'll also ask if you have had any treatment for your legs.
Upper limb movement analysis
At an upper limb movement analysis appointment we'll ask you to change into your vest.
We'll measure the range of movement of your shoulders, elbows, wrists, and hands.
We'll record your upper limb muscle activity while you move your arms. We may ask you to:
- reach and touch a target
- pick up objects
- make a sandwich
- open a jar
We'll ask you questions and talk to you about any concerns you have about your arms and hands.
After your appointment
We'll send a report of your appointment to the person who referred you. They'll talk about the results with you. This can take up to 6 weeks. You can ask them for a copy of your report.
