Rapid access diagnostic clinic

Quick access to a range of diagnostic tests

Coronavirus: rapid access diagnostic clinic update

Due to increased demand on the hospital due to the COVID-19 pandemic we are having to make significant changes to our services which may require cancellation of appointments.

Patients

We are attempting to contact all patients with a future scheduled appointment. In some cases we are changing appointments to a telephone consultation, and in certain circumstances, a video appointment. Some appointments may be cancelled and discharged back to the care of your GP with advice given with regards to a plan. Others will be booked in for diagnostic tests and booked into a telephone clinic for follow up.

If you have not heard from us within three days of your scheduled appointment then your appointment with be going ahead as planned.

Please contact us by email gst-tr.rapidaccessdiagnosticclinic @nhs.net or please call the following number 0207 188 7188 ext: 55667 if you have any queries or wish to cancel your appointment. Our phone lines are very busy and there may be a wait for your call to be answered.

GPs

Advice and guidance

We are doing everything we can to support GPs and your patients during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Therefore, prior to any referral, we would strongly advise GPs to seek advice and guidance via e-RS or by contacting the team directly. If you need advice from our clinical team please use the current advice and guidance channels including e-RS, or speak to senior clinician immediately on 07922 383126. We are not currently using consultant connect but please email any clinical questions to:gst-tr.rapidaccessdiagnosticclinic@nhs.net

This will enable the clinical team to review your request and provide an interim treatment plan for ongoing management of a patient. They can also advise/provide clarification regarding a patient's test results. The GP can attach documents to the e-RS advice request, which may include diagnostic results, scanned images (e.g. ECGs). Providers can also respond with attachments.

e-RS referrals

Please consider the clinical need before making any referral as our capacity to see new patients is very limited.

We are currently undertaking virtual/ telephone triage of all referrals to RDC. The clinical pathway post triage is currently:

  • a face to face consultation,
  • straight to diagnostic testing with appropriate follow up or;
  • discharge to the GP with an appropriate management/escalation plan.

All patients that are discharged will be discussed with the referring GP or duty doctor and a management plan discussed prior to discharge.

Please see these frequently asked questions we are receiving for our patients.

The rapid access diagnostic clinic provides quick access to a range of diagnostic tests for patients, whose symptoms are non specific but concerning and who need a diagnosis so that a treatment plan can be put in place for them.

We offer patients further investigation of symptoms they may have discussed with their GP, through additional tests. These could include: blood tests, imaging tests such as CT scans, endoscopy or other tests.

This is an innovative new service available across Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark, based on a successful healthcare model developed in Denmark – a country with a similar healthcare system to England.
