Same day emergency care (SDEC)

Our medical same day emergency care (SDEC) unit provides emergency care on the same day to people with an acute medical illness who need urgent assessment in hospital. We see you as an outpatient. You must be well enough and able to travel to and from our department for us to see you in the SDEC.

Conditions we assess and treat include:

  • Abnormal liver function tests
  • Acute headache
  • Acute kidney injury
  • Anaemia
  • Arrhythmia/palpitations
  • Ascites
  • Asthma
  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Cellulitus
  • Chest pain (medical)
  • Collapse/syncope
  • COPD and shortness of breath
  • Community and hospital acquired pneumonia
  • Congestive cardiac failure
  • Deep vein thrombosis
  • Diabetic conditions
  • Electrolyte disturbances
  • Endocrine conditions
  • Seizure/epilepsy issues
  • Inflamattory bowel disease
  • Jaundice
  • Lower respiratory tract infection
  • Pleural effusion
  • Pneumothorax
  • Pulmonary embolism
  • Pyelonephritis/UTI
