Coronavirus update: sexual health service

Due to increased demand on the hospital because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic we are having to make significant changes to our services.

Unfortunately, some appointments are cancelled or postponed after clinical review. This includes most of our face to face appointments. We are also not offering a walk-in service.

If you think you need to see us please call the phone helpline 020 7188 770 and our team will assess your requirements. Where possible we are offering phone consultations.

However, if you have been invited for an appointment, it's important that you still come in. Our services are open and safe to attend.

If you do not have symptoms and want a check-up, please use a home testing kit, available from the Sexual Health London website.

If you want simple contraception (pills, patch or ring) or oral emergency contraception (the morning after pill) and live in Lambeth, Southwark, Westminster, Kensington and Chelsea or Hammersmith and Fulham, visit the Sexual Health London website. You will be asked a few questions and then have a Lloyds Pharmacy online consultation which will be reviewed by a GP, and if suitable, the contraception will be delivered to you or sent to your local Lloyds or Sainsbury's pharmacy. If you do not live in these boroughs or want a different type of contraception (injection, coil or implant), please call our helpline.

Phone helpline: 020 7188 7707

We offer a telephone helpline seven days a week. We will offer you either a face-to-face appointment in clinic, or a telephone call from a clinician. Please do not attend our clinics unless you have spoken to a member of staff on the phone first, and they have confirmed that you have an appointment.

We will try to see you as close as possible to your appointment time, but this might not always be possible. Please allow two hours extra for your appointment.

Our service is open seven days a week. This line will be answered daily from 8.30am (from 1pm on Wednesdays and 9.30am on Sundays) until the end of our usual opening hours.

If you have symptoms, we will try to offer you an appointment on the day that you call or the next day. If you want an appointment on a certain date, please call our helpline the morning before you wish to attend.

If you have been in contact with someone who has COVID-19 or you have a new continuous cough, temperature or a loss/change of sense of smell or taste, you must tell us this information on the phone before we book an appointment.

If you are calling to check results, please give us 5-10 working days from the date your tests were done. After 10 working days, please call our results line on 020 7188 3518. This line is answered Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8.30am to 4pm (Wednesday 1-4pm).

Sexual health and reproductive health services operate from three main sites – Burrell Street, Streatham Hill and Walworth Road. We provide comprehensive sexual health screening for sexually transmitted infections and all methods of contraception.

We provide psychotherapeutic and psychosexual services for patients experiencing difficulties with sex and relationships, gender, sexuality, and also specialist clinics for those who are concerned with their drug use in sexualised settings. We offer the highest quality tests available. The clinics also provide emergency contraception and post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV.

The service has a thriving research section, and specialist clinics particularly focused on genital dermatoses, psychosexual and complex infections.
