Your care on the Gynaecology Ward
When you come into hospital, you will be under the care of a consultant and his or her team of doctors. Your team will see you every morning during their ward rounds, which generally start at 8.30am.
The nurses do drug administration rounds at 8am, 12 noon, 6pm and 10pm. If you see a nurse on a drug round please try not to disturb them - there are other staff available who can help you. Alternatively you can press your bedside buzzer.
You will be allocated a named nurse at the start of every nursing shift. If you have any questions or problems, please talk to your nurse. If he/she is unable to help, your questions will be directed to the nurse in charge that day.
All staff caring for you will introduce themselves to you and will be wearing an ID badge.
We provide more information about your stay in our welcome pack. This contains a welcome booklet, which explains what to expect during your stay and what will happen on the day you are ready to leave hospital.
It also includes things to help make your stay as comfortable as possible, such as ear plugs, an eye mask, hand wipes, toothpaste, a toothbrush and non-slip socks.
The meeting your ward team page gives more information about the general ward routine.
Meals will be brought to your bedside. Mealtimes are:
- Breakfast - 8am
- Lunch - 12 noon
- Dinner - 5.30pm.
You can choose your lunch and dinner on the day. Menus include hot, cold, vegetarian and soft diet options. If you have any other dietary needs, for example halal food, please tell ward staff as early as possible during your stay.
We have a 'protected mealtime' policy between 12 noon-2pm so you can eat without being interrupted.
Hot drinks are always available from the tea trolley, which is located in the main corridor opposite the kitchen. This is free for patients, but we ask visitors to make a small donation. Our catering assistant will also do a tea round in the morning and in the afternoon.
See our meals page for more information.

There is a day room for you and your visitors to use. Please respect the area and keep it clean.
