Managing your appointment using DrDoctor

Patients and visitors

More in this section

If we have your mobile number, you can use the DrDoctor website to manage your appointments.

You will be able to:

In some of our services, you can also:

Appointment letters

If we have your mobile number, we will send you a DrDoctor digital letter text message.

You can use the link in this text to view your appointment letter online.

If you do not click on the link in the text, we will send a paper copy of the appointment letter in the post.

Once you view a letter online, you will not get paper copies of future appointment letters.

Changing your letter preferences

If you want to go back to getting paper copies, log in to the DrDoctor website and update your letter preferences.

If we do not have a mobile number for you, we will send paper copies of your letters.

You can opt out of all text messages by replying 'STOP' to the most recent message.

If we do not have your mobile number and you would like to use this service, please contact your clinical department.

Appointment reminders by text or email

If we have your mobile number, you will get reminder text messages about your appointments. You will also be able to reschedule your appointment.

We can send these to your email if you add your email address on the Dr Doctor website.

Changing your appointment

In some of our services, you can change or make new appointments by text message. This allows you to pick the time and date.

You can ask for appointment changes by text message in some of our services.

To request a change:

  • text 'CHANGE' (it will say in your appointment text message if you can do this)
  • put why you cannot make the appointment or pick another date and time

You will get another text message confirming the change.

Booking a new appointment

In some of our services, you can self-book appointments. You will get a text asking you to choose a time and date.

'See me sooner' is available in some of our services. This offers appointments at short notice.

We will send a text message the day after you have booked an appointment asking if you want to sign up for 'see me sooner'. To sign up, reply to the text with 'START'.

'See me sooner' appointments are first come, first served. If you see an appointment time you want, text back as soon as possible.

Digital assessment forms

In some of our services, we may send a text asking you to complete online assessment forms. The form could be:

  • before your appointment
  • after your appointment
  • for follow-up needs

The form links to the DrDoctor patient website. You need to sign in using your location details. We need this information as a security measure to make sure your health information stays secure and you have access to the right forms.

The information in the forms will help us decide on the best treatment plan.

DrDoctor will have access to your contact information but not your health information.

DrDoctor meets the highest standards set by the NHS for protecting healthcare information. For more information, see the DrDoctor privacy policy.

Please make sure we have the right contact details. You can check or make changes to your details:

  • on the DrDoctor website
  • by calling or emailing your clinical department
  • at the hospital reception
