Due to increased demand on hospital services due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we are making significant changes to our services which may require cancellation and postponement of new and review appointments.
The oral medicine department is closed and all outpatient appointments are cancelled for the foreseeable future. We can, however, offer telephone consultations, particularly for the following groups:
1. Patients on immunosuppressant medication or on drugs that require monitoring, including:
2. Patients with premalignant conditions (white patches) or previous oral cancer who are worried or have noticed a new lesion or change in an existing lesion (heaped up areas, pain, ulceration, speckled areas).
3. Patients who have a biopsy appointment in the near future or those awaiting biopsy results.
We are attempting to contact all patients with a future scheduled appointment by letter. In some cases, we are changing appointments to a telephone consultation.
Some appointments may be cancelled and, at the moment given current circumstances, we are unable to schedule a future date. If we cancel your appointment, you will remain on our waiting list and we will contact you in due course.
Some patients may be suitable to be discharged back to the care of their GP and we will write to you if this is the case.

If you are an existing patient who has previously been seen in our service and you have an urgent clinical query, please contact the oral medicine secretary by email on firstname.lastname@example.org or on 020 7188 4399.
We can book a telephone appointment for you to speak with a member of the oral medicine team if:
- you need to urgently discuss your condition
- you do not have access to email or to our website.
Our phone lines are very busy and there may be a wait for your call to be answered. Please leave a message and a member of the oral medicine team will ring you back. It may take a few days before we are able to respond to your query.
