Youth empowerment skills (YES)

Diabetes

Our award-winning Youth Empowerment Skills (YES) programme supports people aged 14-19 living with type 1 diabetes in south London.

The programme is run with Oasis Youth Support. It combines social activities with a 3-day workshop and aims to help you to think differently about your diabetes.

The 3-day workshop involves group sessions, tips and advice on topics including:

  • how to stay safe
  • going to parties and socialising
  • healthy eating
  • driving
  • relationships

New skills

You'll meet other young people with type 1 diabetes. You can learn from each other, build confidence and make new friends.

There's also the chance to go on social outings and try out new skills, such as driving and rock-climbing.

YES programme participant Chris Yabro said:

What's great about the YES programme is you get to know other people who are going through the same thing as you. You're not alone.
