Boots medicine delivery service

Pharmacy

Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust works with Boots to provide an offsite outpatient pharmacy. This is based in Uxbridge. This service delivers certain medicines prescribed by the hospital, so you do not need to visit the hospital pharmacy in person.

Your hospital doctor will tell your GP about your treatment through clinic letters.

Who can use the service

The service is designed to support you if it's difficult for you to collect medicines from our hospitals. You may want to use it if:

  • your appointments are by video or phone
  • you have a medical condition, such as being immunosuppressed, frail or any other condition that makes travelling to our hospitals challenging

It also gives more choice to people who already receive their regular medicines through a home delivery service, or are about to start using one.

If you’re able to, please continue to visit the hospital to collect your medicine. This is the most cost-effective option for the NHS.

How the service works

  • Your hospital doctor sends your prescription to the Boots offsite pharmacy in Uxbridge.
  • Boots prepares your medicine.
  • A Boots team member will contact you by phone or text to arrange delivery of your medicines.
  • Boots will send your medicines using the most suitable option, as agreed by you.

Please respond as quickly as possible to calls or messages from Boots to avoid delays.

Delivery options

Boots offers 4 main ways to receive your medicines. A team member will help you choose the best option for you.

  1. Collect from a local Boots pharmacy. This is the most common option to choose. You choose a local Boots store (from a list provided) to collect your medicines.
  2. Royal Mail tracked delivery. You can use this option if you live outside the Boots local store area and if your medicines can be sent by post.
  3. Boots home delivery. You can choose this option if you live within the Boots local store area but cannot get to a store.
  4. Courier delivery. You can choose this option if you live outside the Boots local store area and if your medicines cannot be sent by post.

Please make sure someone is available to receive courier or home deliveries on the agreed date. We will give you a 2-hour time window for delivery. We will aim to deliver within this 2-hour slot, but we cannot guarantee this.

If you choose to collect your medicines from a local store, you’ll receive a text message when your medicine is ready.

To support sustainability and save money for the NHS, please choose one of these delivery options:

  1. pick up from a Boots local store
  2. Royal Mail special delivery

These options are better because they use existing delivery routes and drop off lots of packages to the same place. This means fewer trips and less cost.

Important things to know

  • Your medicines will not be delivered until Boots has spoken to you.
  • If Boots cannot reach you, your medicines will be stored at the Uxbridge pharmacy for 7 to 10 days. After this time, your medicines will be returned and your hospital doctor will be informed.
  • If you usually pay for your prescriptions, the Boots team will take your payment when they phone you.

Benefits of the service

  • No need to travel to the hospital to collect your medicines.
  • Choice of delivery methods to suit your needs.
  • Safe and reliable supply of your prescribed medicines.
