Overview
Our nurse-led tissue viability service provides advice and support to nursing and healthcare professionals, aiming to develop and improve practice and raise the quality and standards of care in tissue viability.
We have one large team covering both the acute (hospital setting) and community (Southwark and Lambeth primary care services).
Our expert tissue viability nurses (TVNs) see patients in their own homes, health centres and in our hospitals. They provide advice and education on wound management and pressure ulcers prevention.
The services we provide include:
- advice on wound management (e.g. treatment and dressing choices).
- leg ulcer assessment and management
- pressure ulcer assessment and management
- prevention of pressure ulcers
- vacuum assisted closure (VAC)
- education and training
Zero pressure campaign
We also lead on an initiative in our hospitals and community services called the 'zero pressure' campaign. This aims to reduce the amount of pressure ulcers across our services through education in preventing pressure ulcers.
Specialities
Services in the community
We work closely with the district nursing teams, practice nurses, nursing homes and other healthcare professionals. Providing joint visits to provide specialist advice and offer support and training.
Services in hospital
Patients within the hospital environment, requiring support with a complex wound or pressure ulcer will be seen and assessed by a tissue viability nurse and have a care plan provided.
