Coronovirus: dental psychology service update

This page explains what you can expect when you come for your dental psychology appointment.
How do I get an appointment?
You can be referred to our department by your dentist or GP.
Changing or cancelling your appointment
If wish to change or cancel an appointment, please call the relevant department stated on your appointment letter.

What to expect at your appointment
Your first appointment will usually last one hour. This will involve talking and completing some questionnaires. The psychologist will talk to you about your concerns and the reason you were referred. At the end of the appointment, the psychologist will discuss with you whether a series of appointments is likely to be helpful for you and a plan will be made with you regarding your ongoing care and support from the dental psychology service.
Follow-up appointments are usually arranged between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday and last for one hour.
After your appointment
After your initial assessment, we will write to the person who referred you (either your dentist or your GP) to let them know that you are attending cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) sessions. We will also send a copy of this letter to you and, if you agree, to your GP, if they were not the person who referred you.
At the end of your series of appointments, we will write to the person who referred you again to let them know about the progress you have made. You will also receive a copy of this letter. We will also discuss your dental needs with you.
