Virtual thyroid clinic

Phone: 020 7188 1916

Email: [email protected]

If this clinic is suitable for you, most of your follow-up appointments will be by telephone or video call. You usually have follow-up appointments for 18 to 24 months.

You need to have blood tests 3 to 7 days before your appointment. You can come to the blood test department at St Thomas' Hospital or our community blood testing (phlebotomy) clinics.

If you choose to have your blood tests with your local GP, it's your responsibility to get the results in time for your appointment. Please email a copy of your results to us before your virtual appointment.

Please have a list of medicines that you take ready for your appointment.

Your appointment is with one of these health professionals:

  • a consultant (a specialist in the thyroid)
  • a registrar (a senior doctor)
  • an endocrine nurse (a nurse who specialises in hormone problems)

We ask about your symptoms and talk about your test results and how you will continue to manage your condition.

During the appointment, you and the health professional decide your future treatment plan. You can talk about any concerns and ask questions. We also agree when you need another appointment.

We send you and your GP a letter summarising what happened at your appointment and your treatment plan. You also get a letter for your next appointment and a text reminder about this.

Please phone us on 020 7188 1912 if you:

  • are concerned about your test results
  • have a medical question
  • think that you have a severe side effect from your thyroid medicine

We answer this number from Monday to Friday, 9am to 4pm. Outside of these hours, please go to your nearest emergency department (A&E) in an emergency.
