Specialist transplant - HIV

We're one of a small number of hospitals in the UK offering kidney transplants for people with HIV and end-stage kidney disease. We're the most experienced team in the country for kidney transplants in this group.

Our transplant team will assess you with input from:

• a kidney doctor (nephrologist)
• a HIV physician
• kidney and HIV pharmacists

If you're suitable for a transplant, you may be able to have a:

• deceased donor kidney transplant, or 
• living donor kidney transplant

We'll talk with you about this and decide on a case-by-case basis.

After your transplant, we'll work with your HIV team to monitor your:

• antiretroviral therapies
• transplant immunosuppression drugs

You'll stay on Richard Bright ward if you're having a kidney transplant.
