Harefield Hospital is one of the world’s most respected centres for heart and lung care, where pioneering science meets deeply personal care. Close to north-west London, Harefield is internationally recognised for its expertise in heart and lung transplants.
Our teams are specialists in cardiology, cardiac surgery and transplantation, and have led the way in developing life-saving technologies such as left ventricular assist devices (LVADs), known as ‘artificial hearts’.
As the dedicated heart attack centre for outer north-west London, Harefield is known for its rapid response, with some of the fastest arrival-to-treatment times in Europe.
We’re proud to be ranked among the World’s Best Specialised Hospitals by Newsweek magazine every year since the list began.
Harefield is also a major centre for the treatment of lung, chest and oesophageal cancers, and other complex chest conditions. Our multidisciplinary teams work closely together to provide joined-up care that supports both patients’ health and quality of life.
Much of our ground-breaking research takes place in partnership with the Magdi Yacoub Institute and Heart Science Centre, where scientists and clinicians work side-by-side to understand the causes of heart disease and develop new treatments. Many of our patients take part in this research, helping to shape the future of care for others.
