St Thomas’ is our largest hospital and an iconic centre of care and learning, located on the River Thames, opposite the Houses of Parliament. With 840 beds, a wide range of outpatient services, and one of the busiest emergency departments in London, St Thomas’ is a vital part of the city’s healthcare system. Every day, we provide urgent, life-saving care and expert treatment for people across London and beyond.
As one of the UK’s leading centres for emergency, acute and critical care, we offer specialist services in cardiology, heart and vascular surgery, respiratory and gastrointestinal medicine, plastic surgery, eye care, neurology, rheumatology, and genetics. Whether patients are visiting for a routine appointment or facing something more complex, they’ll be cared for by expert teams offering high-quality care and support every step of the way.
We also provide expert services in gynaecology, general surgery, acute medicine, and ageing and health, ensuring that patients at every stage of life receive the care they need.
St Thomas’ is home to one of London’s busiest maternity services, where over 6,000 babies are born each year. Our specialist obstetric, medical and midwifery teams are here to provide personalised care through every stage of pregnancy, birth and beyond. We’re committed to creating a safe, inclusive environment for all families.
And because we’re co-located with Evelina London Children’s Hospital, we’re proud to offer care that spans conception and birth, through childhood, adulthood and later life. It means families can receive joined-up, compassionate care in one place, from teams who understand their needs.
