At Guy’s Cancer, we’re proud to be a leading provider of training and education for cancer care, developing tomorrow’s leaders.
Our strong reputation in cancer care and research helps us to attract and retain students and professionals who want to contribute to the ground-breaking work we do.
By investing in training and education Guy’s Cancer strives to offer world-class cancer care today and in the future.
Education and training
Excellence in education and training is at the heart of Guy’s Cancer. As part of King’s Health Partners, one of the UK’s six academic health sciences centres, and part of teaching hospitals of international renown, we’re committed to developing a healthcare workforce of the highest quality.
Through our partnership with top academic institutions including King’s College London, London South Bank University and the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery we help to train tomorrow’s health professionals.
Through our in-house training and collaboration with health and other organisations, we offer a wide range of courses for clinical and non-clinical staff. Our staff have access to state-of-the-art facilities including the Simulation and Interactive Learning Centre, using sophisticated manikins, known as human patient simulators, to practice tasks in life-like circumstances.
Developing London’s leaders
We are London’s leading provider of education in medical oncology, clinical oncology, palliative care and haematology – for undergraduate and postgraduate doctors, and for specialist registrars training to be consultants. We also train junior pharmacists across south east London, as part of the Structured Training and Experience for Pharmacists programme.
We train tomorrow’s nurses through high quality clinical placements. Students are supported during their training by education practitioners and clinical teachers and mentored to support learning from one another.
We work closely with our partners in the community, supporting GPs and community healthcare colleagues to strengthen their skills and understanding about cancer.
Supporting our staff
Our staff are committed to learning, continuously striving to improve the care that they provide. Guy’s Cancer supports all our staff to develop excellent skills and knowledge to provide high-quality care.
As part of Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, our staff take part in mandatory training through classroom sessions and e-learning modules. This includes the Trust’s ground-breaking dementia training programme, Barbara’s Story. Frontline staff, including porters, receptionist and catering workers, benefit from customer service training.
We help our professionally trained staff to develop their skills by:
- funding further studies
- funding extensive training on highly specialised equipment
- supporting attendance at professional seminars and conferences to learn and share ideas with peers
- and undertaking research.
