Coronavirus: cancer update
In response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, please read our advice and information before attending the service.
Your appointment
If you are receiving treatment your appointments will be at the Guy’s Cancer Centre.
If you are under active surveillance or having a follow-up appointment, you will be seen in the joint neuro-oncology clinic at King's College Hospital.
If you are an existing cancer patient and are unwell outside of office hours (9am-5pm, Monday to Friday), you can get advice by calling our switchboard on 020 7188 7188 and asking for the on-call oncology registrar.
See the clinics page for locations.
-
Before your appointment
Please bring a list of your current medications. It is useful to note down any questions you would like to ask, to make sure you get the most from your clinic appointment.

At your appointment
You can expect to see a member of Dr Beaney or Dr Brazil's team. The clinical nurse specialist will also usually be available, so please ask the doctor if you would like to see her.
First appointments may last up to 45 minutes. We will take your medical history and you are likely to have a series of blood tests. You may also be given written information about any proposed treatments and investigations and asked to sign some forms for treatment.
We recommend that you bring someone with you for this appointment as there can be a lot of information discussed and a second pair of ears can be invaluable.
Follow-up appointments may last 10 minutes to one hour, depending on your needs.
We have a number of brain tumour trials and if appropriate we will talk to you about any trial options relevant to your case at your appointment.
-
After your appointment
We will write a letter to your GP and send a copy of this to any other health professionals involved in your care. Your doctor will ask you if you would also like a copy. At the end of your appointment we will ask you to make your next appointment.
Brain tumour support group
We hold a brain tumour support group for patients and their carers on the first Monday of every month from 2.30pm-4pm. No appointment is needed, so please feel free to just turn up. You do not need to be a patient of Guy's and St Thomas' or King's College Hospital to attend. If you would like further information please contact the neuro-oncology nurses using the contact details on this page.
- Location: The Macmillan Cancer Centre, Kings College Hospital.
