Coronavirus: genetics service update
Due to increased demand on the hospital due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic we are having to make significant changes to our services which may require cancellation of appointments.
We are attempting to contact all patients with a future scheduled appointment.
In some cases we are changing appointments to a telephone consultation, and in certain circumstances, a video appointment.
Some appointments may be cancelled without a future date being arranged at this stage.
If we cancel your appointment you will remain on our waiting list and we will contact you in due course. Some patients may be discharged back to their GP and we will write to you if this is the case.
If you have not heard from us three days prior to your scheduled appointment please contact us by email firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are unable to use email or your query is urgent, please call the following number 020 7188 1364. Our phone lines are very busy and there may be a wait for your call to be answered.
Samples that are in the process of being tested will continue to be tested, but there will be a considerable delay in results being obtained. No further routine tests will be started during this period.
Results from the 100,000 genomes project will inevitably be delayed for many patients. Please do not contact us during this time regarding updates on testing. We will contact patients directly if we have results for you.
If you are an existing patient who has previously been seen in our service and need advice from the clinical team, choose the most appropriate option.

- any enquiry you would like to discuss with a member of the clinical genetics team.

We are doing everything we can to support GPs and your patients during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. If you need advice from our clinical team please use the current advice and guidance channels or Consultant Connect to speak to a senior clinician immediately.
We would encourage you to contact our clinical team before making an urgent referral. We are vetting all referrals. No further routine tests will be started during this period.
We will continue to accept and test urgent samples from pregnancy couples who may require prenatal testing and in situations where testing will alter immediate management.
This is a rapidly changing situation and our lab will continue to provide regular updates through the London South Genomics website.
We will be contacting urgent patients but we are not currently booking routine patients and so there may be a significant delay before seeing your patient.
Please consider this before making any referral as our capacity to see new patients is very limited.
