Overview

Heart valve services

We're one of the largest valve disease services in the UK.

We identify, investigate and treat people with heart valve problems and diseases

We provide:

  • structural heart intervention, using key hole techniques to replace or repair various heart conditions
  • valve disease surveillance
  • surgical valve replacements including minimally invasive techniques
  • post-operative valve surveillance
  • pregnancy planning
  • anticoagulation advice

We see people who have:

  • problems with their valves, such as narrowing or leaking
  • been born with heart valve abnormalities, such as an aortic valve with only 2 cusps (or flaps) instead of 3
  • conditions that mean it might be dangerous to have surgery
  • heart valve disease that cannot be treated with surgery
  • heart murmurs
  • infective endocarditis

Research and clinical trials

Research is vital to improving the care that you receive when you are unwell. You can help improve healthcare by taking part in research studies at our Trust. During your appointment, ask your healthcare professional about research. They will be happy to tell you about research studies you could be eligible to join.

You can also email [email protected] for more information.
