Biography: Hannah qualified from the University of Surrey in 1999. Her first post was on a rotational programme at Guy’s and St Thomas’ on an orthopaedic ward, where she worked with elective post operative patients for a year. In 2000 as part of her rotation, Hannah worked on an ear, nose and throat/head and neck surgical ward, and decided to specialise in head and neck.
Hannah worked on Blundell Ward, and took on a deputy ward manager post. This role allowed her to gain skills in managing tracheostomies, laryngectomies, enteral feeding, complex wounds, and psychological support for patients with altered image.
In 2014 Hannah took on a new post as a clinical nurse specialist to further utilise her knowledge and experience to support patients through their cancer pathway.

Education and training: Bsc (hons) nursing degree, mentorship ENB 998, ear, nose and throat course, advanced communications, psychological support level 2.

Specialist interests: psychological support for cancer patients, enhanced recovery, survivorship.

Claire Davies

Biography: Claire Davies is a qualified nurse with experience in medical and surgical inpatient care and A&E.

She has worked in head and neck/ear, nose and throat surgical inpatient units in Birmingham and north London, spanning nine years. During this time she has taken a special interest in those receiving major and complex surgical treatment of head and neck cancers, with or without the addition of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This has allowed her to gain specialist knowledge and skills in tracheostomy/ laryngectomy care, care of tissue transfer (skin grafts and free flaps), complex wounds, altered communication, enteral/ artificial feeding and altered body image).

She joined Guy's and St Thomas' in March 2014 as a head and neck clinical neck specialist to fulfil her goals in supporting and empowering people with head and neck cancer and its various treatments.

Education and training: BNurs degree (BSc), maxillo-facial pathway: fundamentals of plastics, burns and head and neck surgery, psychological support of the surgical patient, mentoring/enabling learners in the practice setting, care of the head and neck cancer patient, advanced communications, psychological support level 2.

Specialist interests: complex wound care, altered airway care, facial equality and psychological support in altered appearance, survivorship.


Shirley Mullings

Biography: Shirley graduated from the London South Bank university in July 2010. In October 2010 she secured a position as a staff nurse at Guy's and St Thomas' general outpatient department where she worked for two years, specialising in various medical and surgical areas such as gastroenterology, neurology, thyroid, infectious diseases, allergy, lipid and hypotension clinics and many others. 

In October 2012 she started working in the ear, nose and throat (ENT)/head and neck outpatients department as a staff nurse. Since then Shirley has been a senior staff nurse, deputy sister and in December 2014 she became the ENT/head and neck outpatient sister.

As a sister, Shirley promotes and restores high quality patient care by developing day-to-day management and long-term planning of patient care and their experience. She supervises and develops staff and student nurses and collaborates with highly skilled physicians and professionals from across a number of teams.

Education and training: nursing degree BSC (hons) 1st class, mentorship course, ear nose and throat course, communication in cancer nursing course.

Specialist interests: gastrostomy care for patients undergoing chemotherapy/radiotherapy, allergy skin prick testing, complex ear, nose and throat/head and neck wound care and management, venepuncture and cannulation, infection prevention and control, patient communication, departmental/nurse management.
