Due to coronavirus (COVID-19) we have modified our service as described below.
Coming to the eye department
The entrance near the eye department by Lambeth Place Road/Evelina London Children's Hospital is now closed. Entry to the eye department is via St Thomas' Hospital main entrance. Please use the provided hand sanitiser or gels on arrival. Patients are given appointments at 30 minute intervals and seating is arranged to meet social distancing requirements. We will do our best to see and treat all patients within 30 minutes to reduce time spent in the department.
Eye outpatient appointments
We continue to see clinically urgent patients however, routine clinic appointments have been cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. Cancelled appointments have been placed on a waiting list and will be rebooked as soon as the situation allows. The eye doctors have reviewed patients clinical records to make sure appropriate cancellations have been made.
Eye outpatients injection service
It’s important patients requiring eye injections continue their treatment as required therefore we continue to run the eye injection service.
All routine eye surgery has been cancelled. Cancelled patients have been added to a waiting list and will be rebooked when the situation allows. Immediate sight threatening urgent and emergency surgery is being done when needed. Please note cataract surgery is classed as routine, unless it is an exceptional case.
The eye emergency service remains open for people with acute eye problems. Before attending, please call 020 7188 4336 for advice from staff to make sure your visit is necessary. The service is open Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm. Out of these hours, eye emergencies will be seen in the main eye emergency department on a walk in basis.
