Good vascular access means good dialysis, which translates to good health for the haemodialysis patient. Preserving veins for future access, forming fistulae and monitoring fistulae for problems are the most important factors in maintaining kidney patients on dialysis.
We have a team of dedicated surgeons working with vascular ultrasonographers (ultrasound specialists) and radiologists to support the vascular access service in children and adults.
Our experience
Our service looks after over 600 patients across seven dialysis units. Once our patients have a fistula, they are monitored for complications to prolong the life of the access.
Monitoring is carried out in the individual haemodialysis unit, when problems are detected the patient is referred back to Guy's for specialist assessment.
