Dermotology Day CentreThe Dermatology Day Care (DDC) is a clinical unit within the Bermondsey Centre. It provides facilities for a range of treatments or investigations for our patients who do not require a full hospital admission, but require more care than what is routinely given during an outpatient clinic appointment.
It comprises of two topical day treatment areas for general skin treatments. Topical treatment is the application of creams, ointments or dressings on the skin. Sometimes this is difficult for people to manage on their own at home. In this instance an admission for nurse administered care is organised for a fixed period of time. For example if someone has severe scalp psoriasis they may need a short spell of intensive treatment to help get it under control. We can also use treatments in the unit that are too messy to use in the home.
Occasionally people are admitted to the daycare unit to for a series of investigations to help diagnose a skin problem and/or get additional specialist opinions in a timely manner.
How do I get an appointment?
Patient referral is internal only from dermatologists. Two exceptions are:
- referral to nurse led topical therapy from dermatologists at King's College Hospital
- direct GP referral if a patient has a confirmed diagnosis and has previously received treatment in the department.
