Plastic surgery referrals

Providing planned and emergency surgery

Referral address

Department of plastic surgery
3rd floor, Lambeth Wing
St Thomas' Hospital,
Westminster Bridge Road
London SE1 7EH

We provide a stand-alone plastic surgery service, but also work as part of a large number of teams to provide integrated assessment and treatment for patients.

  • Routine referrals

    NHS GP referrals

All NHS GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral service (formerly Choose and Book). Referrals sent to the nhs.net mailbox or by post from GPs will not be processed.

Should you require advice about a patient, please use the advice and guidance facility through the e-RS.

    Non GP and tertiary referrals

Please email your referral to: gst-tr.plasticsurgeryreferrals@nhs.net.

General plastic surgery clinics run daily and we aim to see routine referrals within eight weeks.

To help us book your patient into the most appropriate clinic, please provide as much information as possible and ensure the referral letter is addressed to 'Dear consultant plastic surgeon' or to a specific consultant plastic surgeon to the address at the top of this web page.

Referrals from other hospitals must include a completed Inter-Provider Minimum Data Set or ensure that one is sent within 48 hours of referring a patient.

  • Urgent referrals

    NHS GP referrals

All NHS GP referrals must be submitted using the NHS e-Referral service (formerly Choose and Book). Referrals sent to the nhs.net mailbox or by post from GPs will not be processed.

Should you require advice about a patient, please use the advice and guidance facility through the e-RS.

    Non GP and tertiary referrals

Please email your referral to: gst-tr.plasticsurgeryreferrals@nhs.net.

Any referrals for suspected cancer should be via the standard two week wait referral proforma from the London Cancer Alliance website. All GP referrals are to be submitted using the NHS e-Referral Service (formerly Choose and Book) – we no longer accept emailed referrals. You need to do this within 24 hours of the GP consultation.

Other urgent plastic surgery referrals should be emailed to gst-tr.plasticsurgeryreferrals@nhs.net. We aim to see all urgent referrals within two weeks.

  • Emergency referrals

Where you need advice, emergency patient review or to arrange an admission, please telephone the switchboard on 020 7188 7188 and ask to speak to the on-call specialist registrar or senior house officer in plastic surgery.
