ICU fellowships for overseas trainees

Guy’s and St Thomas hospitals form part of the King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. In our multidisciplinary ICUs, 25 full-time intensivists staff 64 beds and provide services to adult patients from all programs of the hospital including general medical and surgical, cardiovascular, thoracic, complex maxillofacial, oncology and solid organ transplantation. We are one of five UK’s severe respiratory failure and ECMO referral centers. The Lane Fox Unit is UK’s largest referral centre for weaning and chronic respiratory failure.

The successful applicants will provide clinical assistance and leadership to the intensive care and high dependency units at Guy’s and St Thomas’ sites on a rotational basis. Clinical fellows will be supervised by a team of rotating ICU consultants. A consultant will be present during the day to provide supervision and guidance as well as at night in the ICU or by telephone. A system of graduated responsibility will be employed whereby junior Fellows will receive closer supervision while more senior Fellows will be given more responsibility; however ICU consultants are always available.

You must be eligible to obtain a license to practice in the UK and have current ACLS certification. Please visit the General Medical Council website for guidance on registration and license to practice in the UK. Physicians with training in critical care are preferred. Candidates who have completed training in anesthesia are welcome to apply. Opportunities exist for a 4 to 12 months clinical or combined research and clinical fellowship. This fellowship can be tailored to meet the needs of the candidate.

These positions offer flexible start dates and competitive remuneration upon commencement of on-call duties. Remuneration is not available in the first instance and therefore these fellowships should be agreed in conjunction with the health institution or deanery in the country of origin.
